The Anti-TBR Book Tag

Hello, book lovers! 💕

I decided to do another book tag because they’re fun and I enjoy doing them. And this one in particular is one that sounded really interesting because I don’t think I ever really talk about the books that I don’t ever want to read or anything like that.

I originally found this tag on My World of Books so definitely go check their answers out!

So without any further ado, let’s get onto the tag!

1. A popular book everyone loves that you have no interest in reading?

I’m going to say Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. And honestly I’ve heard really good things about it, but I have no idea what it’s about. And I really don’t have any interest in finding out. Even with all the awards and praise it’s gotten, it’s not something I think I’ll ever pick up.

2. A classic book (or author) you don’t have an interest in reading?

There are a lot of classics that I don’t think I’ll ever really have the interest in picking up, but one in particular is Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. Not only is it over 1,000 pages, but it just doesn’t sound like something I would be interested in.

But just the fact that it’s so long puts me off.

3. A problematic author whose books you have no interest in reading?

I think it’s pretty clear that J.K. Rowling is a problematic author whose future books I won’t pick up. I love Harry Potter, and I will probably continue to read that series because it holds so much nostalgia for me. But anything else that she comes out with, I won’t be reading.

4. An author you have read a couple of books from & have decided their books are not for you?

I think I’ve read a couple of her books, but Susan Dennard is an author that I won’t read any more of her books. I’ve heard pretty good things about her other books, like Truthwitch but I feel like it’s not something that is interesting to me anymore.

I also don’t think Adam Silvera’s books are for me either. I tried reading one of his books a few years ago (I think it was More Happy Than Not) and I just couldn’t get into it. So I haven’t pick up any of his books since.

5. A genre you have no interest in or a genre you tried to get into & couldn’t?

I’m not a fan of literary fiction. Or horror. I’ve tried getting into those genres in the past and just couldn’t. There are so many books in the literary fiction genre that have so many awards and praise, but even that isn’t compelling me to pick them up.

As for horror, I’m a big baby when it comes to scary things. I’ve wanted to get into books like Stephen King, but not only are his books really long, but they’re also really creepy. And I’m not for it. I’d much rather have a pleasant experience while reading than be scared all the time.

6. A book you have bought but will never read? (This can be a book you have unhauled/ returned to the library unread).

I haven’t bought any recently but one that comes to mind that I still have on my shelf is Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. I’ve tried a couple times to read it, but for some reason, I couldn’t get into it. I’ll probably end up donating it at some point.

7. A series you have no interest in reading or a series you started & have DNF’d?

I started the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson I want to say maybe four years ago, and I had been meaning to pick up the sequels ever since. But it’s been so long now that I just don’t really want to anymore. I know it’s a beloved series in the book community, and I really enjoyed the first book, but I can’t see myself getting to the next ones any time soon.

Another series I DNF’d is the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series. I read the first book almost 10 years ago, and even then I don’t think I was that interested in it.

8. A new release you have no interest in reading?

I don’t keep up with a lot of the new releases like I used to, so I don’t really know what’s coming out unless it’s by an author I loved previously. And even then, I don’t know a book is coming out until it’s already out. But a new release I have no interest in reading would have to be You Have a Match by Emma Lord. This is her second book, and it came out earlier this year (which I had no clue about). I read her debut, Tweet Cute, and it was alright. Not my favorite. So I probably won’t be picking this one up.

So there you have it! That was the Anti-TBR Book Tag! What are your thoughts on the books that I mentioned? Have you read any of them? Or unhauled any of them? I’d love to chat about them in the comments below!

I’m not going to tag anyone in particular to do this tag, so if you’re interested, consider yourself tagged and definitely give it a try! Be sure to tag me in it so I can read your answers!
