Let’s Chat Video Games | Stardew Valley

Hello, book lovers! 💕

So this isn’t my typical book-related blog post, but I made a post on Friday about feeling a little burnt out. And I got an overwhelming amount of love on that post where people said I should post about things that make me happy. It’s not that books don’t make me happy anymore. But I’ve mentioned a bunch on here that I have so many hobbies that I have trouble balancing them all (reading, drawing, playing video games, TV shows/movies, etc).

So I thought that I’d take today’s post and talk about a video game that has literally taken over my life right now. And that is Stardew Valley.

I know that not a lot of people play video games, and I’m not really good at reviewing them but I thought I’d give it go anyway.

I originally bought Stardew Valley back in October, but when I first started playing it, I wasn’t a big fan of it. I don’t know what it was. Maybe the fact that I couldn’t figure out how to earn money and run my farm without having my character get exhausted by 10am. Plus, at the time, I didn’t really like the graphics because it looks kind of like an old-school PC game. Kind of pixelated and small. And the days in the game went by really fast. I’d lose track of what time it was in the game then wind up passing out somewhere in the town.

Then something just kind of clicked. I decided to pick it back up in maybe January after playing Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, which is kind of similar in the sense that you’re basically running a farm in a small town. I really enjoyed that one, so I figured to give Stardew another try.

And boy did I get addicted quickly.

I spent countless hours raising crops and farm animals and forming in-game relationships with the different characters. I think I’m at the 125 hours mark for the total play time. Which in retrospect is nothing compared to my play time for Animal Crossing New Horizons (I think I’m at 850 hours).

And I think that if you’re a fan of Animal Crossing, you might enjoy Stardew Valley, even though Animal Crossing doesn’t have the farming aspect. But it’s that laid back kind of game that is relaxing to play. I personally love listening to audiobooks while I play since the game itself doesn’t really take that much brain power and doesn’t require much thought like some more action-packed games or story-centered games.

So essentially, I love this game so much. I’m so glad that I decided to give it another try because it’s now all I want to play at the moment. There’s something satisfying about taking care of crops and watching them grow and being able to raise farm animals. Especially when you start from nothing in the beginning of the game.

But there you have it. Those are my thoughts on the video game Stardew Valley, and the fact that I can’t stop playing it. And the fact that it’s kind of taking away from my reading, but I’m perfectly okay with that right now.

Have you played this game? If so, what have you thought about it? I’d love to chat about it in the comments below!

  1. I tried Stardew Valley once but it wasn’t my cup of tea. I’m glad you decided to post about things that make you happy! I’ve started blogging more about music that I like lately. Honestly, I kind of like it more that posting book reviews haha! I’ve also been thinking about writing some art history posts. But idk yet.

  2. Yay for posting about things that make you happy! I also really struggle to balance my time between reading/games/blogging/working/family and a lot of the time it feels like there is not enough time in the day. I really love games like this though and I have a lot of hours played on Stardew Valley as well. It’s easy to play while listening to an audiobook and that way you are getting a 2 for 1! I haven’t played it in a while now but I have been playing the new Pioneers of Olive Town on the switch which is very similar and super cute and fun. This is a great post, keep having fun and posting about the things that make you smile!

    1. Awwwe thank you! I agree there aren’t enough hours in the day to do everything that I want. And I want to pick up Pioneers of Olive Town because I really enjoyed Friends of Mineral Town.
