Hello, book lovers! 💕
So here we are at the end of another month. I feel like this year is going to go by just as fast as last year, but that’s for another post.
This month started out pretty crappy if I’m being completely honest, just with life in general. I didn’t get as much reading done as I wanted, but I’m pretty happy with the books that I did end up reading. I ended up finishing five books (though most of them were short and only one was an actual novel) and I’m in the middle of reading two others.
So without any further ado, let’s get onto the books I read in February.
So I started off the month kind of strong by reading a poetry collection by Amanda Lovelace called shine your icy crown. I was able to read it in only a couple of sittings, though that’s understandable considering it’s a poetry collection and the poems were pretty short.
After finishing that book, I went a bit without picking anything up. Then I decided to try listening to the audiobook for These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong. I have a review up on my blog if you’re interested in knowing more of my thoughts, but just know that I really enjoyed it. It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, and that isn’t a bad thing. The retelling aspect wasn’t something that was blatantly obvious and neither was the romance. There was more to the story than that, which I really liked.
I also decided this month that I wanted another comic/graphic novel series to read, and while browsing my library’s online catalogue, I found Lumberjanes by Noelle Stevenson. I had read the first volume almost 6 years ago at this point, and I remember enjoying it and I don’t know what made me stop reading the series. It follows a group of friends at an all-girl summer camp and the adventures that they go on.
So I picked the first one back up. Then the second one. Then the third. I really like this series, and I’m really looking forward to reading the rest of them. Luckily my library has them all so I don’t have to wait to pick them up.
So those are the books that I finished; however, there are a couple of books that I am still in the middle of reading that I don’t think I’ll end up finishing by the end of the month.
The first one is Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. I started this book early this month on my Kindle, and I don’t think I’m even halfway through it. And honestly, I’m not sure if I want to finish it. I’m not really enjoying it as much as I thought I would. This is a reread for me, and I don’t remember enjoying it the first time I read it (which was back in high school). It’s just so dry and slow and, to be honest, boring. I can’t get through even a couple pages without wanting to fall asleep. And normally I’m the type to push through a book, but this one might be DNF’d. I just can’t be bothered reading something that I’m not liking. There are so many other books that I want to read that I know I’ll enjoy more.
Which brings me to the other book that I’m in the middle of reading, Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert. I picked this up randomly in the middle of the month after watching A Dash of Ash on YouTube raving about it in a reading vlog. So I started reading it, and I’m absolutely loving it. Though it’s taking me a while to get through, it’s not the same situation as Frankenstein where I’m bored. I don’t mind that it’s taking me a long time to read. I’m enjoying it; it’s a really fun read so far.
So there you have it. Those are the books that I have read in February and the books that I am in the middle of reading as this month comes to a close. What are some books that you read this month? Have you read any of these books that I mentioned? I’d love to chat in the comments below!
