Hello, book lovers! 💕
It’s been some time since I’ve done one of these posts, but I figured it would be a good change of pace. Though I’ve never really been that consistent with this meme. But considering I’ve added quite a few books to my TBR, maybe I’ll get to talk about a new book that I’ve recently discovered.
But anyway, Goodreads Monday is a weekly meme that was started by Lauren’s Page Turners. The meme is pretty easy to follow; to participate simply choose a random book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it! I originally saw this post on A Little Haze Book Blog, who is amazing and you should definitely check their blog out.
I use a random number generator to pick the book from my Goodreads TBR. This way, I have no idea what book I’m going to end up talking about in today’s post.
So without any further ado, let’s get onto the book I’m going to discuss!
The book that I ended up picking to talk about is Heartstopper volume one by Alice Oseman. Which is a graphic novel that I recently added to my TBR, and one that I had never heard about until I watched a reading vlog from A Dash of Ash on YouTube where she mentioned this book and absolutely loved it. So naturally, I had to look into it more and put it on my TBR.
The following is from Goodreads:
Charlie, a highly-strung, openly gay over-thinker, and Nick, a cheerful, soft-hearted rugby player, meet at a British all-boys grammar school. Friendship blooms quickly, but could there be something more…?
Charlie Spring is in Year 10 at Truham Grammar School for Boys. The past year hasn’t been too great, but at least he’s not being bullied anymore. Nick Nelson is in Year 11 and on the school rugby team. He’s heard a little about Charlie – the kid who was outed last year and bullied for a few months – but he’s never had the opportunity to talk to him.
They quickly become friends, and soon Charlie is falling hard for Nick, even though he doesn’t think he has a chance. But love works in surprising ways, and sometimes good things are waiting just around the corner…
Okay, so I knew that the author’s name looked familiar, but it wasn’t until I looked into her other books that she published that I noticed that she was also the author of Radio Silence, which I read back in 2019. And that was a book that I really enjoyed at the time that I read it. That one deals with mental illness and figuring out who you truly are and being able to become that person.
As for Heartstopper, it sounds like a really cute M/M romance. Almost the same vibes as Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. Which is a book that absolutely adored. So I feel like I’m going to really like this when I eventually pick it up. And that might be sooner than I expected because just reading the synopsis again makes me want to read it. Like immediately.
I’m not sure what else there is to say about this book other than it sounds freaking adorable, and I want to get my hands on it as soon as I can. I know it’s going to make me swoon really hard for the main characters, especially if it’s anything like Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda. Because that book did, and I’m sure this one will too.
So there you have it. That’s the book that I chose to talk about for Goodreads Monday. Have you read this book? What are your thoughts on it? Is it as cute as it sounds? I’d love to discuss it in the comments below!
