Hello, book lovers! 💕
I figured I’d talk about the book that I’m in the middle of reading right now in today’s post. Because it’s one that I wasn’t actually planning on reading this month. Honestly, I’m not sure what possessed me to pick it up considering it’s not something that I typically gravitate towards, but I did.

And that book is 1984 by George Orwell. Which as a lot of you guys know is a classic. It’s actually a book I read in high school for an English class almost 10 years ago.
I must have blocked the memory of what actually happens in the story because reading this now, it feels almost like I’m reading it for the first time. The obvious thing that stands out in my memory is Big Brother is Watching, which is a pretty iconic philosophy from the book.
But this book is unnerving to say the least. Just thinking about there being a glimpse of a possibility that a society like this could exist freaks me out. The ThoughtPolice, the telescreens that listen and watch your every move. How brain washed the people are, especially when it comes to the government literally rewriting history. It’s scary to think about. How people are vaporized from existence for stepping out of line of what the government deems right.

Anyway, like I mentioned, I don’t know what made me want to pick this book up, especially considering I had just finished reading Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas a couple days before (which I completely devoured in one sitting pretty much and absolutely loved).
Then again, my boyfriend has been wanting me to read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, which got me thinking about 1984, and since I already own a copy of 1984, I figured it was time for a reread.

After I finish this book, I’m not sure what I want to pick up next honestly. The only other book that I have on my TBR for January is These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong, and I’m not sure if I’m in the mood for that book right now. But we’ll see.
I was also thinking about finding a comic series to read since I recently finished the Avatar comics this month. And I’m not sure which one I want to start. I read the first volume of Lumberjanes by Noelle Stevenson five years ago, and I’m kind of thinking about rereading it so I can continue on with the series. But it’s pretty much the end of the month, so I might just wait until I make my February TBR.
So there you have it. That’s the book that I’m currently reading and the books that I plan on reading next. Have you read 1984 or any of the books that I mentioned? What are you currently reading? I’d love to chat about it in the comments below!
