Hello, book lovers! ๐Ÿ’•

I decided to take today to talk about the book that I’m currently reading. Because I’m actually physically reading a book (well, it’s an ebook, but I’m not listening to it)! Which I know is still reading, but I really want to try to get back into taking time out of my day to actually sit down to read. Nothing else but read for a little bit. And that’s what I’ve been doing lately, and it’s amazing.

I’ve mainly been reading this book before bed, and because it’s on my Kindle, I can read it in the dark. But that book is A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn. I’m about 70% done with it, and I’m really enjoying it.

It’s the first book in a 6 book series about a woman, Veronica, in Victorian London who is very witty and outspoken, which is unheard of during that time. She’s also a scientist who goes on trips abroad to various parts of the world in search of rare butterflies (she’s a lepidopterist – which I had no idea what that was until reading this book).

But chaos ensues when Veronica is left with Stoker, a reclusive and bad-tempered natural historian, and then they’re on the run from an elusive assailant as they search of the villainous truth of Veronica’s past.

So like I said, I’m almost done with this book, and honestly, it’s not something that I normally pick up. I don’t usually read historical fiction novels, but I originally heard about it from a video on Riley Marie’s BookTube channel and thought it sounded really interesting. So I decided to give it a try; plus I think when I bought the ebook, it was only $2.99 (and currently, it still is).

And oh my God, the mystery aspect of this book is amazing! I only have 30% left of the book, and I have no idea what’s going to happen next. And considering it’s a longer book series, the mystery will (hopefully) continue throughout the next books as well.

There’s also a slow burn romance, which I’m really enjoying too. I feel like the romance aspect of the book isn’t really at the forefront of the story, but it’s still there. And the banter between Veronica and Stoker is funny and witty and makes me want them to be together all the more.

I also started listening to The Dream Thieves by Maggie Steifvater. This is the second book after The Raven Boys, and I’m looking forward to being back with these characters again. I’m pretty late on the bandwagon for this series, so I won’t go into too much about what the book is about other than the fact that I really loved the first book when I read it months ago. I have been meaning to pick up the second book, and I’m glad I’m finally getting to it this month.

So I know I’m going to finish A Curious Beginning in the next day or two, and when I do, I’m planning on picking up Chasing Lucky by Jenn Bennett. This was originally supposed to be released in May, but it got pushed back to November (it came out last week). I’m so excited for it, and I would have already been reading it if I wasn’t already reading a book. I preordered the Kindle version, and it’s all ready to go. I don’t even know what the book is about, but it’s by Jenn Bennett, and I’ve loved all of her books. So I have a feeling I’m going to love this one too.

There you have it. Those are the books that I’m currently reading and plan on reading soon. Have you read any of these books? I’d love to discuss your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. You’re definitely not the last one to be on the The Raven Boys’ wagon because I still haven’t picked up the series ๐Ÿ˜‚ But it is on my TBR! A Curious Beginning sounds really good and it seems to have a lot of elements that I know I’d enjoy so I’ll definitely be checking it out ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Iโ€™m glad Iโ€™m not alone in starting The Raven Boys! And you should! A Curious Beginning is a really good historical mystery (though I havenโ€™t read many of those types of books). I recommend it! ๐Ÿ˜Š
