What I’ve been up to…

It’s been kind of a rough month. Just going to preface this by saying that this is going to be kind of personal, and if you don’t want to read about my life, that is completely fine. I just need a place to rant.

So halfway through January, I was let go from my job that I was at for a year and a half. Which kind of took me off guard. But long story short, there was a change in owners, and the new owner didn’t like the way I was working. Plus the atmosphere of the workplace was kind of childish. Like, I literally felt like I was working with a bunch of high schoolers. People would snitch on others about something that shouldn’t even have been their business, and it was really irritating.

And before I was let go, I was starting to really hate my job. I worked with kids, and it wasn’t necessarily the kids, but more so the parents and the other employees and the boss. Also, I went to college for Publishing, so I wasn’t in the field that I went to school for. And I felt stuck. I didn’t want to quit, but I also felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere in my life if I stayed there.

So, in retrospect, it was probably a good thing that I was let go. It was rough at first, and it’s still new since it’s hasn’t even been a month yet. But things are starting to pan out. I have a plan in mind, and it’s all I could ask for right now becuase I’m the type of person who likes having a schedule and a routine.

Here’s my plan. If you noticed, I added a few pages on my blog. My intentions is to become a freelance editor. I’m not sure what kind of editor as of right now, but that is my goal. I’m in the process of networking and finding clients, but I’m taking a step in the right direction. I’ve joined a few groups on Facebook that are related to editing and writing, and I’ve been trying to talk to people on there. I’m planning on joining the Editorial Freelance Association to try to branch out more.

Overall, that’s where I’m at, if it interests any of you guys. I just figured I’d vent on here because I feel like I’m going to try to make it my safe place. I don’t want to try to self-promote, but I need to gain some more experience in order to become a freelance editor. So if you know anyone who needs an editor, I am available to give a quote and a sample edit.
